Attention everyone: a new Mercury retrograde officially begins on 30 June!
This retrograde won't sit still — it takes a "cross-sign backward" route:
6/30 – 7/17: Retrograde in Gemini (Air)
7/17 – 7/23: Backing into Cancer (Water)
Mercury governs "communication, thinking, transport, electronics and contracts." When it turns fickle and straddles both "airy Gemini" and "watery Cancer," it means we're not only facing a massive information mix-up, but also a second test of old emotional grievances being dragged back up.
⚠️ Refuse the he-said-she-said! Put everything in black and white, however tedious
In the first half of the retrograde (Gemini), information gets garbled most easily. In conversation, everyone talks fast and promises generously, only to discover afterwards it was a total "Rashomon."
For example: "Didn't you promise me otherwise last time?" But in fact, everyone understood the original terms completely differently. The counter-move for an air-sign retrograde is this: don't trust any "verbal promise," and certainly don't assume the other person understands your unspoken rules or reads your mind.
During this period, please confirm and reconfirm, however tedious it feels: "Do you mean…?" For anything important, be sure to keep a written record. Don't put too much faith in your memory, and above all avoid signing any major legal contracts or documents during this window.
⚠️ Guard against tech going on strike; leave an extra half hour of buffer
Watch out for all sorts of sudden "strikes" in transport and communications too. For example: your computer freezing on an update right before you head out, forgetting to back up an important file, a presentation that suddenly won't open, a ride-hailing app pinning the wrong location, or scrolling on your phone so obsessively that you miss your stop.
My advice: don't pack your schedule too tightly during this period. Give yourself 20 to 30 minutes of margin for error before heading out or going into a meeting, so equipment failures don't leave you falling apart on the spot.
What's more, the second half of the retrograde (Cancer) tends to trigger impulsive behaviour driven by "sympathy" or "emotion." We might blurt out something emotionally charged in a moment of sensitivity, or buy a pile of feel-good junk we'll never use just to soothe ourselves, or even binge eat under stress and feel deeply regretful afterwards. During this period, please remind yourself: don't let the emotion of the moment lead you around.
💥 Hardest-hit zone: the four signs feeling it most intensely
These four signs, whether because their "ruling planet is caught up in it" or their "houses take a direct hit," will be at the eye of this retrograde storm. Raise your alert level!
♊ Gemini | Alert level: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"Who am I? Where am I?" — Thinking cuts out, plans go off the rails
Survival guide: In the first half, Mercury is stirring up trouble right in your own sign, and the quick wit you normally take pride in suddenly goes offline. You're prone to saying the wrong thing, making the wrong call, running wildly late, or forgetting your keys. In the second half, the retrograde moves into your 2nd house, so keep a close eye on your wallet — accounts get muddled and budgets get blown. This is no time for impulsive financial decisions.
♍ Virgo | Alert level: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
"The timeline keeps changing — what is the boss thinking?" — Workplace order in chaos, a challenge to your perfectionism
Survival guide: Work will drive you up the wall during this period. Key proposals stall, management keeps flip-flopping, office equipment goes on strike en masse, and past work you didn't handle well may get sent back for review. In the second half, the retrograde moves into your 11th house, where communication gaps open up in your relationships. When posting online or speaking in team meetings, avoid speaking impulsively, or you may be quoted out of context.
♋ Cancer | Alert level: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
"The hidden dagger becomes an open blade" — Trouble surfaces and forces you to confront it head-on
Survival guide: In the first half, the retrograde sits in your 12th house, so you may feel inexplicably anxious, sleep poorly, or vaguely sense someone is scheming behind your back. But after 7/17, Mercury backs directly into your 1st house, and those old problems you'd kept hidden and deliberately ignored (including ex-partners, long-standing emotional knots and gaps at work) will erupt outright, forcing you to face and clear them up with clear eyes.
♐ Sagittarius | Alert level: ⭐⭐⭐
"Bad teammates and exes arrive together" — Major upheaval in relationships, partnerships and romance
Survival guide: This time the disruption isn't of your own making — it comes from "other people." Conversations with your partner go completely at cross purposes, your other half brings up old scores, or work partners and clients suddenly change their minds and go back on their word, with contract terms needing repeated revision. On top of that, this is also peak season for "ex-partners circling back," so respond with a level head.

💡 A special note from me: how to use Mercury retrograde properly and turn it to your advantage!
Many people see "Mercury retrograde" and think "that's it, I can't do anything" — but that misunderstands what a retrograde really is.
The Latin root of Mercury Retrograde is "Re," which stands for Review, Readjust and Reorganize. It isn't asking us to stop living; it turns energy that was "charging forward" into "looking inward and checking back."
These four things are all perfectly suited to working in reverse during this retrograde, to your own benefit:
1. Restart something that's been stalled for a while
Astrological logic: A retrograde carries the energy of the "past." Looking back now, things that were stuck or energetically off may find a new way in as the transiting planet moves back over them.
What it's good for: The novel you half wrote, the business plan that stalled midway, a weight-loss programme, or the professional certification course that's been sitting in a drawer for ages. Taking these back up now to "resume old business" often comes with an inexplicable push helping you reconnect.
2. Reconnect with people you haven't spoken to in ages
Astrological logic: Mercury governs communication, and retrograde motion means the communication lines run backwards. That's exactly why "ex-partners, old friends and former clients" circle back so often during Mercury retrograde.
What it's good for: Messaging a university classmate you haven't seen in years, or calling on a former employer or old client you enjoyed working with. Catching up now usually happens in a warm atmosphere, and may even "rekindle" collaboration opportunities you missed in the past.
3. Plan things, but don't make decisions
Astrological logic: During a retrograde, information is muddled and full of variables, so it's a poor time to sign contracts or finalise decisions (you're likely to regret or revise them later). However, with Mercury in a mutable sign (Gemini), thinking is highly active, making it ideal for "gathering ideas."
What it's good for: Brainstorming, patching holes in existing workflows, and laying out several alternative plans. Plan like mad, but leave "signing and executing" until Mercury turns direct — the plans you make now will be extremely thorough.
4. Dig up intelligence and bring hidden things to light
Astrological logic: Mercury backing up is like a detective returning to the crime scene with a magnifying glass. Especially once the second half of the retrograde enters Cancer (also a reserved, secretive energy), truths buried deep down and deliberately overlooked surface very easily.
What it's good for: In-depth market research, sorting through an old hard drive or an overflowing email inbox (you'll often unearth important information you missed), or personal reflection and psychological counselling — this is when it's easiest to dig out the "root causes" of your own behavioural patterns.
💡 A warm reminder from me: chaos and plans not going as expected are normal — just take it in your stride. Get your mindset right, and as long as you "back up important files, read contract terms carefully, pause three seconds before speaking, and leave flexibility in your schedule" during this period, Mercury retrograde becomes a good opportunity to look back, debug and fine-tune your course. Wishing you all safe passage!
🙋🏻♀️ "But I have something genuinely important during this period — what should I do?"
